COURSE DESCRIPTION:
CSA 101. Windows Essentials. Credit Hours: (1) Introduction to
Microsoft Windows, using MS Windows XP Pro.
Emphasis will be on personal computer operations, accessing and
storing of information, Overview of MSOffice and desktop management.
Repeatable. (RC/E).
Three lab.
COURSE CONTENT:
1. Desktop environment
2. Folders and files
3. Functions of the START button
4. Mouse controls and usage
5. Access Internet
6. Exposure to all standard Windows programs (i.e., MS Word / Spreadsheet /
Data base)
7. Calculator
8. PC Paint
9. System tools
10. C:, A: and M: drives/and moving between them
11. Multitasking
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Create and save documents to files and folders.
2. Create and remove icons.
3. Customize the desktop to their design.
4. Work with several documents at one time.
5. Create drawing and insert drawings into documents.
6. Open and use the main calculator functions.
7. Use the Help function to solve problems.
8. Download information off the Internet.
9. Retrieve and edit saved documents.

Assignment Due Dates:
Students
will be notified of the due date when assignments are handed out.
It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that their
assignments are completed and ready to turn in on time.

Classroom Rules:
1.
No food or drinks at the computers in the computer lab.
2.
Be on time and prepared for class.
3.
Students should access the computers only when instructed to
do so by the instructor.
4.
Equipment use by students is governed by the Yavapai College Acceptable
Use Policy.
5.
The lab must be cleaned up before end of the class.
6.
No friends or visitors during class.
7.
All equipment is to be returned to the lab assistant at the
end of class.

Attendance:
|
Students
are expected to attend to attend and participate in all class
meetings, laboratories, and field trips.
A student who expects to be absent due to another
school-sponsored activity or compelling persona reason must make
prior arrangements with the instructor.
All course work must be made up as directed by the
instructor. A student
who does not adhere to instructor and College attendance
requirements may be dropped from the course as defined in the
Yavapai College General Catalog.

Course
Withdrawal:
|
To
officially withdraw from a course, the student must complete a
Yavapai College Change of Class Enrollment Form and submit it
to the Registration Office. Withdrawing
from a course after the published deadline for withdrawal requires
instructor approval and signature.
When a student withdraws from a course, a “W” will appear
on the student’s permanent college record.
If a student does not follow official procedures for
withdrawing from a course, failing grades may be posed on the
student’s permanent record.

Contact
the course instructor during office hours, through e-mail or phone,
or at the beginning / ending of a class session to arrange for
additional course assistance. Many
student support services are also available to assist students in
successful course completion.
